Empty Preferences Window in Mac OS
claus1812:
I've just installed UECIDE v0.11.9 on my MacBookPro. When I try to open Preferences in UECIDE I get only an empty window. Whats's wrong ?
matt:
What version of mac OS?
matt:
Numbers mean nothing to me. What name is that?
claus1812:
High Sierra. That's the latest I can get for my MacBookPro(2011)
matt:
Ok, I think I can set up a VM for that version. I'll have a try.
matt:
I can't replicate this. I have a clean HS install, and a fresh UECIDE install, and it works fine. Have you ever seen the preferences window, or is this the first time you have tried to access it on OS X?
claus1812:
This is a fresh installation. However there may be some remainders in the file system from earlier installation, which have not been removed at deinstallation. I had similar Problem in Windows (see other Topic) What and where in the MAC Filesystem do I have do delete manually after deinstallation in order get a clean new installation ?
matt:
I forget where in OS X it is. Probably your Library folder in your home directory. Just booting OS X again to check...
matt:
~/Library/uecide
is where it's all stored. You can delete the preferences.txt
file in there to reset anything it doesn't like.
claus1812:
Have deleted complete ~/Library/uecide path then re-installed. Same Problem.
matt:
Can you find what version of Java you have installed?
claus1812:
Clauss-MacBook-Pro:~ claus$ java --version
openjdk 11.0.10 2021-01-19
OpenJDK Runtime Environment AdoptOpenJDK (build 11.0.10+9)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM AdoptOpenJDK (build 11.0.10+9, mixed mode)
matt:
Ah, that's a difference: I am using java 8 from java.com. I'll look at install 11.0.10.
matt:
Ok, it's something in JDK11 that breaks it. I see a blank pane now,
matt:
It looks to be to do with refreshes. You can move the mouse over the bottom and the buttons appear. You can click in the left hand side and (if you aim right) the tree appears.
matt:
I've narrowed it down to the menu bar in the preferences window. Without that it's all fine. I think I'll just remove it, since it's redundant (does the same thing as the buttons at the bottom of the window).
claus1812:
Doesn't help me on MacOS as new release is no longer running on High Sierra and I can't upgrade my OSX on my old MacBookPro
matt:
In what way is it not working?
matt:
Actually, I see the package is incomplete or corrupt. One mo...
matt:
Ok, that should be better now.
claus1812:
Wonderful. Working now for me.
I just thought it will no longer be working on High Sierra because of your note on download page:
"Note: Catalina is the last version of OS/X UECIDE will be actively supporting"
matt:
Nah, that just means that I can't (currently) get a Big Sur VM working. I did, for a while, but now it's broken. There's too many bad things in Big Sur, and with the M1 chip breaking any hope of binary compatibility for compilers, and the complication that brings, it's really not worth the effort to try and support (blindly) the problems that will arise from it.
